Sumlin is bolting after this year - many people think the Tulane game was a on-air interview for Ole Miss. He's got to, too: next year Houston loses almost all of its offense and they come down to earth. Keep in mind, the 7 starters he's got on offense he didn't even recruit, especially not Keenan.

He's not bolting because UH is headed to a BCS conference. We have been saying that about him and Patterson for years.

He still got them to play as a team with swagger...on BOTH sides of the ball, whatever and who ever he had. Its about leadership at the top.

He said that June had nothing (meaning no talent at SMU) when he started and he is right.

Also, with all the recruiting barriers (of the past) and perceptions SMU is good job not a great job.

Patterson is getting paid though. Can UH match the salary offer he will get elsewhere?

If he gets a $1-2 mil per year raise by leaving--which even if it turns into a complete failure, is basically guaranteed for 3+ years including a buyout--that is pretty tough to turn down. Unless he only gets offered an impossible situation and thinks he could do better later, he will be gone. That's a big gamble when you are losing so many players and moving to a much more difficult conference. Might not ever get that offer again if UH turns south.

SMU defense has swagger, but this offense is pathetic, there is no swagger, no fire, no sense of urgency, we stand over the ball for 9/10's of the play clock while June decides what play to run without even looking at the defense.

Houston shows how to do the run and shoot. June may have invented it, but he is too arogant to tweak it an make it better, like everyone else has.

Calling the plays from the sideline with no clue of what the defense is doing is just silly. No one, and I mean no one, runs this offense, because it is not effective. It has many good points, but they were never developed after decent teams saw how to stop it in the mid nineties.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

Huskerpony, since UH is now going to a BCS conference they will have the money to match.

I don't know if Sumlin will leave or not - UH has a HUGE upside for a coach - but I'm telling you now that it is next year that we will find out if Sumlin can coach. He's won with someone elses talent until now - a guy who has shown at Baylor he can recruit and coach - and he will be hard, hard pressed to do it again. So next year, if he stays, we will see if hes a Chris Peterson or a Houston Nutt.
