1. We live in an age of instant gratification and it seems as though most of you do not know what is behind success in athletics. Believe me, it doesn't happen overnight, it takes a lot of repetition. Be patient and support the team. If we do not start to see improvement once the 2010 class starts to mature then your rants are justified. Until then, enjoy going to Bowl games, which we had not been to in 20+ years before June got here.

Thank you for saying that. There are a lot of circumstances that go into determining who can play and who can't, and it's ignorant of us to lay all the blame at June or JJ's feet.

This year I thought we'd be good, but after UCF and Armed Forces Bowl, I was concerned about the QB position. Next year, I'm happy with the skill positions, but I'm still concerned about QB and I'm terrified about the offensive line. Fact is, the Mustangs are still a bit of a work in progress. Compounding the fact is that when we overachieve Ike we did at TCU, we get unrealistwic expectations.

I get as frustrated as anyone, but if I am honest with myself, I should be thrilled that we're going to our third bowl in a row, that said bowl won't be in Hawaii, and that wew're showing enough improvement that our recruiting is taking a meteoric upswing.

On a scale from 1 to 10 of inappropriateness (1 being the most appropriate), "McDermott" is a 1. I'm guessing (hoping) that the comments are targeted at some of the more colorful ones like mine (which I'll not repeat to keep from hurting feelings). JJ is terrible beyond terrible. If SMU were a club team and tickets were free, I would say negative comments are out of line. Neither is the case so negative comments are appropriate. If he doesn't like it, then he should pay his own way and stay off the field.

Regardless, I understand the plea for decorum. I consider myself a very positive supporter of SMU and I rarely resort to name-calling or childish behavior (JJMcD will be my one exception). However, a poster should be able to slice a comment into the weeds everyone once in a while without getting slapped with the County Club Code of Conduct. It happens.

Part of the fun of being a spectator to just about any sport is the right to purchase a ticket and second guess coaches and compare players strengths and weaknesses to others. I made my share of sarcastic remarks about PB when he was here, mostly related to the ridiculous amount of practice time he devoted to the "swinging gate." But these public forums are read by players, parents, and prospective players and parents. The last thing we want is to come off sounding like a bunch of jerks. Leave that to UT, A&M, TCU, etc. The coaches are responsible for criticizing the players and I am sure they are not shrinking violets. Leave it to them in the locker room.

I disagree. As an x player parent of a starter if my son missed the block I was the first 1 standin up and saying so in the stands and on the boards. I was also the first to brag when he accomplished things of strengh. This is not kintergarden or Iraq.

When you achieve you win the crowd, when you fail you take it like a man get up and move to your next challenge Both on and off the field.

I agree with some posts that may be too chastising on the kids, but these boys get $200,000.00 scholarships and know what comes along with that pressure. This is not Pop Warner, its D-1 football and it comes with expectations. And especially at a 'in your face type of position' like a 'QB you know what happens when you don't perform, especially week after week, Whether it's here at SMU, New Mexico State or in Texas high school football, the fans will be there to criticize, and also praise when the time is appropriate. Its part of the gig.

He was a pretty good QB. He could run this R&S. And of course, he will always have this:

I understand that pressure and criticism are a part of college sports, but what do we gain by beating a dead horse? If we know that a certain player has limitations what good does it do to berate that player week after week, especially if there is no better option?

I never called anyone a clown Topper, especially players and we quite frankly DON'T accomplish anything on this board anyway as a whole, do we?...it's part of the game unfortunately that you are gonna take barbs from fans, just as PF's be careful how it's presented is my point.

Recently I raised a few thousand dollars and helped place a bunch of tickets with deserving charities. Thad raised a bunch of money for a commercial. Several great guys raised money for a billboard.

All of that helps the school. Helps the program.

But no. We don't help recruiting, coaching or players outside of contributing to the growth and development of the brand as boosters.
