I agree, but as fans, we need to get our asses in the stadium. JJ is 100% right to be [deleted] at the "fans". It's pathetic and embarrassing.

Don't go [deleted] on the "fans". The "fans" are there every game and giving money to the MC. The problem is that there just aren't many fans. So there is the problem that needs to be addressed. Students are not fans just because they attend SMU. Maybe they should be, but you have to make them fans. Same applies to the alumni. How do you make them "fans"? The admin obviously hasn't figured that out yet.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

They need something to be proud of. Dallas loves a frontrunner. One UH - type season would do that, or at least a few 9-10 win seasons over some recognizible teams. We had a chance this year, but fell apart down the stretch. A win over tamu would have helped too.

Agree with that, but we shouldnt focus too much on students. I know that students leave to go to parties, but its poor planning. School should put more incentives to have greeks put their parties on Thursday, Friday. The fact that students tend to be double majors, or major and double minors is very tough. We should instead just hope that students do the best they can to come, and focus on the Dallas pool of people. Just getting 2% of pop = 20,000+ is a great and possible goal. The big thing is we need to get someone with good recruiting abilities in DFW. We are losing candidates left and right to Big 12 and we need a JJ of our recruiting market in Dallas. If we get local talent, we will get local fans.

You guys put too much credence in this students leave to go to parties idea. Saturday nights are actually pretty quiet. Thursday is the big bar night and Friday is the party night. Students leave because of the parties, but it's often because they are exhausted from the 2 days before.

New lights or a marketing dept.? Make up your mind, coach.

You have to get people at least thinking about SMU football - that's where marketing comes in. We have none.

And then you have to get them talking about SMU football - that's where winning comes in. We do that better now.

And after you've created interest and backed it up with a winning atmosphere, then maybe you'll get people to come to some games.

But you're never going to get much of a crowd on Thanksgiving weekend for Rice. Especially with a bad weather forecast. Sorry, that's just a non-seller. Complain all you want about the attendance at other games, but that one's on scheduling.

If you notice attendance is slightly down for 2011, but it does not include a TCU home game (2010) or operation sellout (2009 vs SFA). To people expecting a sell out just look back five years for a dose of reality. We are making progress but it is not going to be over night, that would require a few undefeated miracle season and we still lack the proper depth for that. Next year we will get a bump from having A&M and TCU at home. 2013 we will get Tech and Baylor. People will come out for those match-ups the important thing is to turn them into repeat customers. Moving to the BE will help.

These boards seem to constantly go in a circular argument about attendance, but there are a few things we can do to help attendance. In my opinion making the BLVD more accessible and attractive to non alumni should be priority #1. Regardless of our record it is the most attractive/unique feature of SMU FB. Need a reason for new Texans to make the drive from Plano.

SMU is still moving in the right direction, best recruiting class in years. June is trying to leverage more out of the program by entertaining openings, will happen every year. IPF still doesn't have a set date.

Recruiting complaints are BS though. Stanford and USC seem to do ok. If anything the coaches outside of Klemm (and maybe Mason) are just terrible recruiters. If we had better recruiting we wouldn't be coming down to the the wire every year admission for some players. Go after better players and stop using admissions as your excuse. RGT and the admin have made huge changes (lowering standards and adding athletic friendly major), SMU recruiting (outside of the two mentioned) is just awful and needs to step it up. We will never be as easy as Hawaii academically, SMU is moving up academically and could be top30 in ten years. Second Century Campaign has $750 million reasons why academics are only moving up. Don't want my degrees severely diluted just for the sake of getting to 10 wins.

We played a tough home schedule this year from the perspective of attracting fans. As the schedule currently stands, next year we have A&M, TCU, and UH at home. I know it is highly likely there will be changes to the schedule, but that's 2 sellouts and 1 potential sellout right there.

Yes, there might be a lot of people at those games but, not to be a 'negative nelly' we are probably/realistically 1-2 after those games and that isn't much inspiration for the casual fan to return. Dallas loves a winner. We just need to get to that level.

GO PONIES!!!

Next Season starts: @Baylor, vs A&M, vs SFA, tba, vs TCU, the rest is CUSA games. Baylor could have RG3 and Briles, just Briles, or neither; will have to wait and see.

That alone could help bump attendance avg to 25, but conference attendance is the big problem (A&M game could be an A&M home game, our own fan base is still lacking).

Lio a'e! (Hawaiian for Pony Up!)

You are a fool. Try to have a little pride in our program and institution.

You didn't pick up on the obvious sarcasm and I'm the fool?

but seriously, we [deleted] about the fact he wears a black shirt and lei on the sidelines- 3 bowl games in 4 years after NO bowls for 24 years- yea, I'd prefer if he wore a blue or red shirt, but we really can't complain short of him wearing a speedo out there. I mean, do you really give a [deleted]? Would you rather have a guy out there in wranglers and cowboy boots with a bright blue shirt and bollo tie who loses 8 games a year? Give me a winner anyday...

HIs shirt does have a red Mustang on it.

Talked to SMU coach June Jones' agent Leigh Steinberg. Wouldn't talk interest in Arizona State. Said Jones has a good job and is happy. That doesn't change the fact Jones met with ASU officials on Saturday.
