Same factual basis as an assumption of the best from the guy.

Re: The Big (Unanswered, I think) Question
The fact that certain recruits did not just decommit amidst the hubbub and actually committed to ASU is kind of compelling.

remind me to hire jt when I need criminal/civil representation...just in case I get caught talking to that big church in Idaho.
Assumptions aside, I would nevertheless think that jt's proposition is on the agenda at the Orsini meeting.

Ha! The protestant clergy is one big free agent market as far as I can tell. Follow the money, my friend.

Re: The Big (Unanswered, I think) Question
Basically, all coaches are liars when it comes to things such as their job and how long they will be at a school. Other things such as promising recruits they will play early or things such as we are a family and you have to trust each other are lies. Not just June but every coach. So you say Mac Brown is not like that or Lou Saban or Les Miles....just ask their former employers. Coaches justify it because they know the ugly side which is they are hired to be fired...in other words not meeting expectations will get you fired. They are forced to be liars because of the system. that is why student/athletes should choose a university they would like to attend irregardless of if they are playing and who the coach is. That is why SMU should be better than most. I am not naive. I would recommend anyone to get in touch with former players including those who have left such as Bo Levi to get a balanced opinion of this staff. Once the recruits sign the loi they are slaves to the masters unlesss they transfer and sit out a year. You alumni who listen to the surf dude or June...do you realy think they are your friends and care one bit about anything about you? Who is naive now?

Re: The Big (Unanswered, I think) Question
I don't think anyone is upset at Jones for looking at another job, or even agreeing to take another job, or even considering seeking to have the recruits he'd been talking to follow him. I know I'm not. What burns me and make it untenble is that it certainly appears HE DID IT ON SMU'S TIME USING SMU'S RESOURCES.
That is all.

Yeah, but that most likely isn't grounds for SMU to terminate with cause under the terms of the contract. Most of the times, the violations have to be pretty egregious and if they are not, the employee ("coach") is given a chance to cure the violation. If what he did does not give SMU cause to terminate (and from what I have read, I doubt that it does), and SMU cans him, then SMU is on the hook to June Jones for a chunk of change plus penalties.
Haven't read the contract so I don't know this for a fact, but that's pretty standard language for coaching contracts.
That's why were all in a tough spot. SMU can't fire him cause we'll owe him a chunk of money if we do. Jones can't just outright quit otherwise he'll owe SMU $2 million per the buyout clause.
If he can't land another job fast and he still wants out, then he's going to have to negotiate a resignation with SMU. SMU should drag it the hell out and make sure he can't go somewhere else and take his recruits with him. SMU didn't back off of the buyout clause with ASU; shouldn't back off the terms of the contract with Jones. Go Stangs.

So the standard, jt, is that you need to quit your current job before listening to other offers?

Re: The Big (Unanswered, I think) Question
Good post, CaptainW. I'd love to see that contract.
We're in a lose-lose right now. Coach doesn't want to be here (clearly), and, now, how can SMU want him? Fans have turned. Players can't like how things went down. Even if he stays, recruiting is going to SUCK (what kid would really go to school where the coach is trying to leave?). The admin can't trust him even after they've given him EVERYTHING he whined like a baby about. Boosters who pony'd up bigtime for his paycheck and charity feel slighted.
Settlement must be negotiated.

No, but if your current job flies you to Akron for business, you should not stay over an extra day to interview for another job in Akron while your there and then charge it to your company. Just like you should not use your company's computer or printer or letterhead stock to print out resumes to send to other companies (okay, bad example since eveyone's done it). Just like you should not fly in a kid on SMU's dime last weekend and tell him that if he really wants to play for you it'll have to be in Tempe.

No. But again, the assumptions (I'll even use your word) which I draw from the circumstances are no less vaild than yours.
