Maybe my hearing or interpretation is off, but I heard our HC all but call us a village of idiots. Bad Leigh Steinburg. I didn't get offered. I don't know if I would have accepted or not. Social media is very bad. Internet is not to be believed at all times. Somebody got Leigh's access to whatever device it was and put things out that Leigh didn't even say. I love SMU now even more (than I did last weekend). Things are gonna be even better. Let's hold hands and thank Steve O, while singing I love you, you love me, we're a happy family...
And for dessert, let me show you what I do when one of mine gets a little too big in the head. I don't need social media, I just have my assistant create a graphic that I very carefully put together. Forget that the time frame used renders the whole thing irrelevant, I know that you will buy the whole enchilada because, well because, I'm June and I'm here (again) to lead you out of the wilderness of C-USA and into the BE, where we will win championships...not middle of the pack finishes like that overly difficult C-USA. Ahh, things are all good now. Bring on Pittsburgh."
I think this post and half of what is in this thread epitomizes the problem with social media. Someone misreports something or puts an edge on it, people believe it and run with it and you get a version of the truth.
Let's go paragraph by paragraph:
"I can't believe what I just listened to at lunch. Now, as a general split or estimate, if you were over 65 then you probably lapped the whole mess up with a spoon. Really? I was one of the 5 30 somethings in the room, seated at a table of a bunch of older folks. And all of them had concerns. Everyone at my table entered with a lot oof questions and were reluctant to applaud when coach stood up, so let's not exaggerate the situation to the folks who were not able to attend.
"Maybe my hearing or interpretation is off, but I heard our HC all but call us a village of idiots. Bad Leigh Steinburg. I didn't get offered. I don't know if I would have accepted or not. Not what I heard at all. I thought he made a point by wearing the red shirt. that in itself was a sign that he has heard all the talk and an acknowledgment that he has some rebuilding to do. His explanation of ASU is exactly the way that a lot of high profile people use agents. They do the negotiation and tell me about the results. So, he honestly said he didn't see an offer. And he honestly said that he heard there was some contracts in the work. I thought he answered both questions. And what he said about the blog was that there was a quote someone posted in response to a blog statement that got reported as LS quote, but it wasn't a quote from LS. It is like if someone posted a response to Rienbold's facebook page after he updated his status, and then claiming that Jeff said it. All in all, he expressed his disappointment in LS.
The ultimate example of how social media stretches the truth are the reports in this thread that June said negative stuff about AK or tore down his recruiting abilities, which absolutely did not happen.

The presentation was awkward, to say the least. But all Jones said was that the entire staff is involved in recruiting. And that in the past they have all been involved in recruiting. Just because two members of the staff are the most visible or vocal about their efforts doesn't mean that the rest of the staff isn't doing anything. That was the point of the presentation. Just because you interpreted that it was negative about a specific individual doesn't mean that was the intention.
I thought he answered questions well and I thought that he showed empathy and some contrition. Of course, that might be my interpretation

.
One note that I think has been left out of this thread - it is important to know that if any of the coaches leave, we have the budget to go and hire really good assistant coaches. And,as a personal aside, because we are in a major conference now, we will have a larger, better pool of assistants to choose from.
Also, another interesting note - in the past, we have had to recruit the way TCU got better - put some offers out on kids that are academic risks in order to try to get the talent into school. Now we are able to recruit kids who have good talent AND the grades. That is the major place the game has changed with this year's class.
