OT: Admission
Hey guys,
I am a new to this site. I REALLY REALLY want to attend SMU and applied and am waiting to hear. How much does knowing a board member influence an admission decision? I do not have the exact criteria of the "perfect" candidate mainly a test to my learning difference. How much can this help me?

Depends. There are lots of board members and trustees. It depends on what board they are on.

Just to be sure give the person you know a roll of $100s and tell him to keep one and pass it around.
Just kidding. Good luck.

Re: OT: Admission
learning differences don't stand in the way. I can personally attest to that. the ALEC is a fantastic program that helps students with disabilities (or whatever you want to call it to feel good about it). I'd suggest you address this concern with an admissions adviser. ask them specifically about the ALEC and other programs. demonstrate that you don't let differences hinder you.
also, have the board member write a recommendation letter. and make sure that when you speak (not write, go talk to them) an admissions person, drop names.
