The bowl scene is flooded with meaningless bowl games. How is going 6-6 a reward? There are the few exceptions. Overal fans get tired of going or cost to attend every year becomes a factor, if fans dont buy tickets then the schools end up having to buy leftovers along expenses is it any wonder so many schools lose money?
As long as ESPN is around this will not change or until they start losing money.

College bowl games...follow the money
leopold wrote:It's not just the small bowls that fleece the schools - MnB correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Michigan lost money on the Orange Bowl they went to years ago where the beat Alabama on a missed XP. If I'm not correct it actually cost the AD his job because the school consistently lost money on the bowl games the Wolverines went to, regardless of the bowl or it's location. I also believe that it was the SECOND AD to lose his job at UM over this (or at least I read that somewere).
I'm for the bowls but I absolutley agree that they need to sort the mess out. Why does TCU and LT have to go all the way to San Diego to play when the schools are practically next door? It's stupid, wastefull, and unorganized. It's also a waste for the bowl that should be there to try to not only provide a stage for the two schools, but also a chance for the city to earn revenue.
'94, I am wondering, I saw your figures for the school revenue for the bowls, and I have to ask - do you know how it is that LSU brings 22M from their game while 'Bama brings 6M and they are playing in the same game? That seems weird to me. Hell, travel expenses from Tuscaloosa are going to be similiar to coming from Baton Rouge.
I got those figures from the BCS site
