Unfortunately, he will be remembered for the things he didn't do as opposed to the many positive things that he did do during his lifetime.

Being perfect is not a requisite for allowing people to call out or act against reprehensible behavior.

With all due respect, there was a time and place for that and we've done that for the past two months here on Ponyfans. Now that Paterno is dead, let's agree that he made a mistake and that he will be judged for it and move on.

CalallenStang would you being saying "ah well who hasn't sinned?"
if it had been your child raped by a monster in the shower that was partly enabled by JoePa?
How many children were scarred for a lifetime long after JoePa didn't follow up? Yes it is
sad the way JoPa went down in flames because of this sicko Sandusky, but the real tragedy is the children and it appears some people in Happy Valley are more concerned about JoePa and football than a child.

Sad, but can't say didn't see it coming. Like with Bear Bryant.

I was sorry as hell to hear about the accusations and sorry to see JoePa go.

For good or for bad, Joe Paterno is getting his judgement now, and I wish him luck.

RIP Joe Paterno

I'd be angry as hell but I'd be at peace that those responsible will get what is coming to them. Same way that I feel about the person that murdered a relative of mine.

It is better to make the world a better place so that it doesn't happen again than to dwell on what someone else should have done previously...especially now that that person is getting their final judgment.

Fair enough Calallen. I wish Sandusky would get the death penalty.

Jo Pa turned a program with a 20,000 seat stadium into a 110,000 seat sellout every year. Names like Franco Harris and a ton of linebackers come mind when you think of Penn State. He is tarnished by the Sandusky situation and that will taint his legacy. Also, I think Mustang fans felt to some extent betrayed when the team went 11-0-1 and his team was voted National Champion with one loss and because the vote was in part a lifetime achievement award to him, most of SMU ire has focused on him. He was a great coach and was beloved by his players. May he rest in peace.

^This^

Troubling about the 'premature' death of Joe Paterno on Saturday night was the reporting media
(including CBS Sports and the Huffington Post) announced his death after taking the lead from a student-led media site Onward State that erroneously announced the death Saturday. Neither HuffPost or CBS sited the source in their own announcement, giving the appearance that THEY were breaking the story. Only after the report was discredited, both new-sources credited Onward State as the source for their 'mis-information'.

I pray his family will find comfort and peace in the coming days. My hope is that Penn State will do the right thing in 'sunshining' the scandal, and not take a CYA attitude that only makes the matter worse. Lastly, may God grant healing to those that have been victimized by actions ( or inaction ) of those in Happy Valley.
