Exactly. Everyone has been PRAISING UNLV for their transfers, but on this board if SMU is involved its never good enough.
I think that is an improper characterization of what we are seeing here. Everyone is thrilled about Larry Brown. We are getting in front of legit high school blue chippers and we have picked up a few nice transfers. I think what people, like me, are pushing back on are comments like this "What a difference a legit coaching staff makes." or "For five years the "past staff" didn't have the resuts LB and staff did in the last several weeks." when comparing the actual results we have seen thus far (although the POTENTIAL RESULTS for LB and staff are unreal). Here is why:
Larry Brown players in his short tenure at SMU:
Turner- former 5 star from Arizona
Head- former 3 star Rivals top 100 guy from Illinois
Moore- Former starting PG at Illinois St.
That is a great list of gets (especially Turner if we get him enrolled) and I am very excited to have all of them. But to say things like the last staff wasn't legit or that in 5 years it didn't achieve the results that this one has would be wrong:
Doherty players in the last 2 years:
Williams- former 4 star from UT, Rivals Top 100
Russell- former 3 star from K State Rivals Top 100
Cotton- former 3 star and highly dated Dallas area recruit from Nevada
Cannen- 4 star Rivals top 100
Blaise- 3 star rovals, 4 star espn and offers from half of the Big East
SMU is going to be a lot, lot better under Larry Brown than it was under Doherty. Tons better. But that does not mean we have to sh*t on Doherty and his staff, or belittle some of the recruiting accomplishments they had, to achieve that success under LB and his.
