Multi-purpose Facility / IPF / New Natatorium

I am certain that those fans of swimming are frustrated by the lack of a modern facility. But, could someone explan why it would make sense to add it to the IPF? What would be the concept? How would the savings be accomplished? It seems that the "footprint" of the entire complex would be so large that nothing would accomodate it and nothing would ever get accomplished. I am having a problem trying to understand the proposal.

There is no proposal other than my dreaming the impossible dream, how to resolve the impasse. The current proposal, which is ideal, is a replacement aquatic center on the Bishop Blvd. Perkins Natatorium, connected to the outdoor "Red" Barr Pool. The purpose of my post what to conceive of a plan that may be more feasible given the enthusiasm for a FB IPF and perhaps indoor track/student intramurals. The size would force it east of Central Xway on SMU Blvd, a Plan B.

What about not a tear down of Perkins, but a gutting and rebuild. Is that $20 Million? My understanding is that the problems are locker rooms are antiquated, pool is in need of modern equipment. A price tag for repair of those would seem to be more manageable. Or is the desire to add in things like a separate diving well. If that is the case, you could probably handle that by removing the office space and building a different face to the Natatorium and building offices to the sides and raising the roof and glassing in the sides for more light. Steve Lundquist of course would have to stay off the higher rafters.

By the time you do all that you have exceeded the price of demolition and constructing a new structure...unfortunately.
