I hope your argument isn't that his community involvement was what resulted in him getting the best players in the area. Did it play a role? I'm sure it did, but his personality and his tireless recruiting efforts I'm sure had a much bigger impact.

Not trying to be a jerk here but what has he done for the children other than hand out some free tickets and help get some buses to bring them to the games in past years? Actually, he didn't hand out free tickets, we (being good fans) bought the tickets for him and contributed to renting the buses......
Re: June came to SMU to help school children
I think SMU did that not Jones' ministry. His personal ministry probably is doing things we do not know about. Just sayin.friarwolf wrote:Not trying to be a jerk here but what has he done for the children other than hand out some free tickets and help get some buses to bring them to the games in past years? Could someone enlighten us regarding his local personal ministry? Once again, not trying to stir the pot, just wanting examples of what kinds of things is he doing locally.................

Just look up June Jones Foundation.com...its all on there. His Golf Tournament in Hawaii is dedicated to children's charities...friarwolf wrote:Could someone enlighten us regarding his local personal ministry? Locally is what I am talking about - not the islands. By the way, went to his website and it's underwhelming at best. Last news note was posted in January of 2012 and a couple of posts in 2011.
Re: June came to SMU to help school children
I think you're right on the 2.3 million reasons he came here. And his willingness to flirt with Arizona last year makes me wonder what happened to the desire to "help school children"....?MagnificentGelding wrote:I can think of about 2.3 million reasons, or whatever his paycheck is. That said, I'm a June supporter because this job has been the coaching career killer up to now.

Its not just for the Islands...he donated $7500 to the Clayton Dabney Foundation this summer at the Golf Tourney, which is a local charity.friarwolf wrote:Locally is what I am talking about - not the islands. Irregardless of the whats or whys if someone is doing good things for our kids lets say thank you and bless you and let God be the judge. Something to think about along those lines I think TCU coach Patterson and his wife and their foundation are involved with poor young children in the Fort Worth area and proviing them support and nurturing and i think even getting them to TCU events and having the alumni and players involved too and I have not heard once from anyone around fort Worth that this is giving Patterson an early edge into the fertile recruiting grounds around Fort Worth schools by getting him and TCU in their doors while in middle and elementary schools. If it is legal then more power to them because those kids need help and if a coach or university or alumni is manipulating the situation towards athletes only then shame on them
