I will say this, if the starting QB isn't getting it done, I think it is a good change of pace to give the 2nd team QB a chance to see what he can do, in a game going no where before the game gets out of hand. Sometimes a change of pace helps the starter get focused who, if nothing else comes back into the game later and does well. (Look at K. Padron v Tulane in 2010 who had 4 TD passes after being pulled in 2Q)...My biggest concern is all the statements made by everybody at fall practice, including Coach Jones, about how accurate Gilbert has been in practice. Then when he gets in a game, up until now, he under throws or over throws WRs that are open a good percentage of his passes. The OL has not been great, but not that bad either. Gilbert definitely seems confused and nervous.
I have yet to see WR get open more than 90% of the time. I remember they looked like they just stayed in one place and for every one of them an aggie was in front. Should CP play some if things aren't working sure but that's tue for every position malfunctioning. I put this on JJ not getting stud WR (besides dieter) weak O line that makes ZL have to battle for his life.

Padron only had 1 TD pass in that 2010 Tulane game, it was a long one to Robinson (I remember in the postgame interview Padron said he trying to throw that one out of bounds).

It should be noted that in high school, Preston's wide receivers were Marquis Lee and Robert Woods.....both of whom started at USC as freshmen and both will be first round draft picks. The other WR at Serra was Farmer who was ranked higher that both lee and woods out of high school and Paul Richardson who was colorados top receiver last year and is out this year with an injury. There is also another WR on that team who is at UCLA. We have seen him in garbage time and i don't think there is a high school QB who has had more top tier WR to throw to than Preston did in the history of high school football. June has shown zero problem with pulling a starter....the only time he has not it when he has no other options like last year when pardon was hurt and the only other option was Kaiser. Preston is Kaiser in my opinion.

If Preston was Kaiser then he wouldn't have gotten in a game at all, Kaiser couldn't even get in games when we were getting blown out and McD was clearly playing injured.

I never said Preston is the answer. I said IF our starter isn't getting it done, Preston deserves a chance to get into the game before it gets to 48-3 again. If we did not have the worst offense in D1 last Saturday, we had to be close. Worst SMU offensive performance I can remember in a long time, and the quarterback has to take some of the responsibility whether we like it or not.

I agree with that, it's embarrassing having our first string lose to their 4th. He should have put 2nd string everybody in 3rd and 3rd string in 4th to just give them what will be there last time playing aggies ever again
This is the worst offense I can recall since 2008. No play-makers. Zilch, nada, zero. Drops, overthrows, under throws, picks, down right poor throws no where near the intended target. O-line is sloooooooooooooowwwwwww. We get out-quicked and qb is pressured or sacked. Very accurate in practice ( wearing "can't hit me jersey") not so accurate in games. Play-calling is what it is....freaking horrible and predictable. How many times did our bubble screens get blown up? Defense plays well early on, but gets worn out. "little help" O. The Qb guru could possibly use some tutoring. JJ, I hope we aren't keeping you away from somewhere else you'd like to be. Embarrassing. 5-7, maybe.
Play call? Play call? There isn't any. Remember, the receivers react to the safetys, and hope everyone in the offense is on the same page. It's an incredible offense...when it works.

Shovel pass, bubble screen, hb screen, hb draw are all play calls

I saw Preston play in high school. While those were his receivers, someone still had to get them the ball. From what I saw Preston had a pretty good arm. I was pretty happy that we got him.
