What do you base the Hart comment on? How do we know this is new Copeland?

Which based upon his recruiting and this years performance he sure as hell hasn't earned.

Jones has done about all he is going to do at SMU. He did revive the program - we are improved -but he doesn't appear to have what it will take to do any better than what we've been the past three years. I think Jones believed that within 4 to 5 years he would make another run like he did at Hawaii and it didn't happen. About the only way to show improvement at this point is to go 9-3 and get a marquee win in a bowl game.

Is there any way to assemble a football staff the way we did basketball this past off season?

Jones is the 25th highest paid head coach in the country. Without putting more SMU fans in the stands, I wonder if the CoC is getting their ROI on this deal?

I know many have complained about the non-conference schedule, but if we beat or came close to beating some of these teams the past few years more people would have an interest in SMU football it would help with attendance at conference games. The program has improved but not enough to be relevant in college football in Dallas, TX.

Berg apparently thinks it is funny that many of us are no longer willing to support an AD and fball program that is not competitive with even lower BCS quality teams.
IIRC somebody made the snide remark that perhaps they (the ADept) should revise their budget.....
Well, after the ASU fiasco I called my attorney and had SMU removed as the major beneficiary of my estate. Not big deal- I didn't write or threaten RGT etc with a removal I simply decided to put my money where it would not be wasted on mediocrity.

Looking closer at the coaches salary report, I'm not sure it entirely accurate. Sorry if it isn't.

I'm all for brainstorming who might be a nice fit for the next coach here, even though what we say here will have no say in it.

But we have to realize who makes these decisions, and what their track record has shown. The CofC WILL hire a guy that has had head coaching experience. All we can hope for is that he is not old like June and LB. I want a guy with a youthful energy and enthusiasm that is still hungry and has a genuine passion for recruiting.

red - sorry but i call b.s. also - if you give money through your will to a University based on W/L record of a football team, you need to rexamine your priorities. Football is great - i go to every game. They are fun. But i support SMU because it is a great University that educates our future leaders. Do what you wish - they are your resources to direct while on earth, but thank goodness there are a ton more people like me then like you.

True. But disagree on your LB comment. LB hired so young guys under him that are hungry on the recruiting trail, which compliments his laid back coaching focused style.

right, agreed as well, I'm not knocking the LB hire. His mission is to do what June did, bring SMU basketball to credibility and respectability. The only difference is that he has some guys that are professional recruiters around him, and guys that have played the game at the highest level. Guys that recruits know and relate to like Eric Snow, and guys that understand today's youth as evidenced through their social media, like Coach Howard.

Football is now ready to take that next step. Bring in the guy that can take us from relevancy in our own world, to relevancy on a national scale. A guy that can inspire Dallas to get behind this team with big results against some BCS caliber opponents, and get local kids to stay home and play here in Dallas. The next staff, however comprised, must focus on elite coaches that totally understand the recruiting landscape (much like basketball), and that can relate with the youth here in Dallas. They have to run a pro-style offense that is innovative and creative and get big time athletes to help make this offense successful. Same thing goes for the other side of the ball too.

These sound liek obvious points, but they are not things that this staff has done. This staff has done a lot for us, and have earned their place in SMU football history. But clearly, we have seen the pinnacle of where they can take us. The playcalling and recruiting have leveled off, and even dipped. We MUST raise the bar every year, or else we might be stuck with mediocrity for years to come. Especially in a time where so much is changing, we cannot be left in the dark now, we've come to far, and our school's ceiling is too goddamn high to level this thing off where we are at now..

I think you need to re-read that msg. Nothing w-l. I specifically mentioned the ASU fiasco during which jj showed that he had no moral or ethical ties to my university. You just don't screw up the biggest recruiting w.e. in many years and then try to poach the recruits to a new school while on SMU's nickle.

I feel he should have been dismissed at that time and the failure of the university to do so was very disappointing.
