if i remember correctly, GaTech didn't even get a 1st down that game. i think they scored on the opening play of every drive.White Helmet wrote:Cumberland didnt actually play football that year. They had disbanded the football team after the previous season, John Heisman forced them to honor the contract in response to a thrashing that Cumberland put on their baseball team 22-0 (Heisman was the baseball coach as well, they also though Cumberland used some non-college professionals as well).Rebel10 wrote:But does Cumberland even play football anymore? Man you must have had to really search for that one LOL.

Love it. Let's keep breaking that record every year and do the same against TCU.

Phil Bennet seemed completely enamored with the swinging gate. No matter how bad we were he spent practice time on that idiotic gimmick and regularly used it to know known benefit.mrydel wrote:Saw Oregon run the swinging gate last night and they scored 2 points with it.
Re: Another fun fact..
I am sure its in another thread - Houston put up 96 on us, i was hoping we would get in the 80's. We needed every bit of those 72 to seal it.
Re: Another fun fact..
I got back home just before noon today, and had no intention of going to work. But since several of my co-workers are UH fans who have been talking trash for the last few days, I have been strutting around the office all day and making them get me coffee. They haven't had the nerve to object.
What an awesome day this has been. Thank you MUSTANGS!

It was actually 95. I know this because I sat and stared at that number in the Astrodome along with the 1,000 + yards prominently displayed. Longest bus ride home ever.GiddyUp wrote:I am sure its in another thread - Houston put up 96 on us, i was hoping we would get in the 80's. We needed every bit of those 72 to seal it.
There was some justice levied last night.

Gregg's emotions seemingly had cooled only a little by Sunday. "I won't dwell on it now," he said. "It's over and done with. We will never, ever forget it."skurtn wrote:Houston Chronicle Archive Link to 1989 SMU UH game
Ain't that the truth.

My mistake. Wasn't it Notre dame that played us at home that same year? The infamous step out of bounds play?
