T - good comments. I can agree with all excepting that jj needs to be gone at the end of this year and not next year. We have already seen how well he has prepared us to compete real BCS teams ala BU, aTm and Tc-who. We need new coaching blood now so he can start our move the BE.

ponyboy,

If you agree with me that we are not anywhere near where we need to be then yes we have common ground. I've had this conversation so many times with fellow SMU fans about June Jones. I'm very glad that Jones took a chance on us. When he came here this might have been the worst job in America even with the insane payday he got. He took this thing from dreadful to average in a very short time. That was something that the previous coaching staffs couldn't do. I don't care what advantages or circumstances led to his success, we can't qualify that. He was successful and accomplished a huge goal for SMU football. June Jones and his staff deserve the credit for that.

My real problem with Jones is looking forward. Going to the Big East is the shot in the arm this athletic department has been looking for since the Death Penalty. We can't afford to be asleep at the wheel as we make this transition. I have zero faith that June Jones can take us from average to good or, God forbid, great. His recruiting, lack of enthusiasm, and inability to adjust his scheme to fit his personnel have rendered us completely uncompetitive against quality competition.

A look at 2013, which will be year six of the June Jones era, and unless we are lucky to get Memphis, San Diego State, and maybe Temple I don't see us winning more than 4 games. In year six. We will likely get our doors blown off by Tech, A&M, TCU, and Baylor. In year six. That's more than enough time to be competitive with borderline Top 25 programs which those programs are. We are not getting our return on investment this far into the current regime.

Thats why I couldn't care less that we beat Houston by 30. We lost to freaking Tulane. Tulane. In Jones' fifth year we are still not producing on offense. We win with turnovers, Zach Line, and Tom Mason. Jones, if anything, is a massive hindrance to our team's success.

The man can't be allowed to coach past 2013. Hell its borderline disastrous if he coaches 2013. However, our battered wives syndrome fans will say 7-5 is great and just be happy with that. That's a losers mentality. We can be great here. But you're kidding yourself if you think June Jones will be the man that gets us to greatness.
Back off Warchild seriously.
