Because Tulane and SMU have been in the same conference for several years, I have friends who are Tulane grads and live in New Orleans (read: "free place to stay"), because it's also a small private school, because the school has worked hard to rejuvenate itself after Katrina, because it's supposed to be building a nice on-campus stadium, because I like hurricanes (the drink, not the weather system), because New Orleans is a great city to visit, because Tulane is stuck in what's left of Conference USA, because we have a chance for a win every year, because ... because ... because ...

There's a Pat O's in San Antonio (schedule UTSA or at least Texas State. Both awesome places to watch a game).

I hope to play Rice again...... a long time from now when they have committed to winning.

Qwlfred points out some pertaining history.

This is will be the 90th meeting of these two schools in football. SMU leads 48-40-1.

SMU is 3-0 over the last 3 years. 3-1 in the JJ era.

SMU's 48 wins against Rice is the most wins against any SMU opponent.

Which is the point I wanted to make in the thread...

Saturday is the final game in our direct link with the SWC - which is a bit sad in a sentimental way, but very exciting in so many other ways.

Go Ponies!

Still have Houston.

Yeah, but we have only been playing them since 1975 and we lost touch with them for a while while we were in the WAC and they were in C-USA.

Or when we have a good enough team that we don't have to prove ourselves every game and can afford one FCS-type practice game on the schedule. (after all Texas still plays them occasionally)

Then we can use them as a punching bag (for old times sake  ).

Baylor, TCU, Rice, Tech. That should be our OOC not freaking UTSA or NTCC, geez. Rice is only there because of tradition. We need to get out of this cupcake mindset and try to fight for national if not state prominence.

Yep. With Rice as the first game to work out the kinks.

Thank you junior. That's exactly where we put them. I don't know how some of these cupcake lovers complain about fan base if they load the schedule with 4A hs football games.

TCU didn't start get national recognition by beating a bunch of D2 teams.

Having said that, we can't hold our own weight against the big boys, so if it's between getting creamed by a middle of the road bcs team, or winning against D2...give me the win.

But that doesn't do anything in regards to fan building or any recognition. All it does is give us a win for one year and all forgotten the next.

and how does losing by 30+ to any team in the big 12 get us recognition?
