Everyone stop doing heroin. The Big Ten isn't inviting Rice. What the hell?
Big Ten made this move in response to ND's affiliation with the ACC. ND wasn't interested in the Big Ten before this round because they didn't want to be regionalized in the Midwest, so the B10 went after two East Coast Schools. They want ND, always have, and it makes a ton of sense. I could see them maybe making a play for ND and UVA to get to 16. Only way VA legislature lets this happen is if VT gets a lifeboat into the SEC, presumably with NC State. My question is- do NC pols allow NC State to break away, further diluting the ACC and hurting UNC, Duke, and Wake?

Well, there's that school over in Fort Worth, forget its name, but it's strong in football and baseball.SMU_Alumni11 wrote:Who in Texas would the Big 10 go for?
Houston -- to dumb, not big enough fan base, had success doesnt look like it anymore
SMU-- too small, no fanbase, at best a northwestern
Baylor-- has it nice next to Texas, plenty of money has the hype, fanbase is growing down in Texas, no reason to change
Tech-- too dumb, football is mediocre, basketball nothing,
Texas- owns the bIg 12 why give that up

I think its a long term strategy to get ND by destabalizing the ACC. They sure aren't doing this to add recruiting goldmines. Now if the Big 12 can get access to Florida, South Carolina and maybe Georgia they will end up in better shape than the Big 10 reaching for Basketball schools and territory. Big 10 will earn lots of cash-Big 12 will be a more promiinent player on the national stage. SEC will still be the Big Dog

I agree with all this, including the ND-ACC angle, but the most immediate factor appears to be the "earn lots of cash" part, not the destabilization part. BTN will now claim all those DC and NY (and Baltimore and some Philly) tv sets and their cable revenues will increase accordingly via the magic of bundled rates.Stallion wrote:I think its a long term strategy to get ND by destabalizing the ACC. Think it will be the other way around. Think the Big East absorbs what's left after the ACC gets raided by the SEC, Big 10, Big XII. The Big East is still on the open market for a TV contract, while the ACC has an albatross back loaded ESPN contract for 15 more years.

It would really be funny if the BE took the remainder of the ACC and our TV contract was not with ESPN. I would love for espn to take it in the shorts.

That means nothing and sadly they're the ones I'm pulling for after the Aggies since SMU can't get a freaking teamOldmins wrote:Well, there's that school over in Fort Worth, forget its name, but it's strong in football and baseball.SMU_Alumni11 wrote:Who in Texas would the Big 10 go for?

Re: Big East Conference in 2015
I believe that both Texas and Oklahoma have signed the Big 12 grant of rights which means that the Big 12 band will stick together for at least the next 5 years. Texas flirted with all the major conferences as recently as two years ago, but the Pac & B!G didn't like Texas' Political entanglements (the Tech Problem) and they didn't like the LHN and Texas' money-grab & beggar thy neighbor attitude.sbsmith wrote:SMU_Alumni11 wrote:Crap I forgot about them, they had a good baseball team too. I can see them going after Rice.
Texas is the only school in the state the Big 10 will pursue. Honestly every other option is laughable. All of the Big 10s recent invites have gone to large AAU state schools (only 2 fit those criteria in Texas).
IMO - The Big 12's deal with the SEC & Sugar bowl is another stroke of genius for Chuck Neinas. The cooperation with the SEC means the Big 12 has a major seat at the big-boy superConference table. So in Texas' mind, all they have to do is beat Oklahoma and then go to the Sugar bowl which is the first round of the final four (the Rose Bowl being the other).
So a big 12 conference with ten members suits Texas just fine now. I think they wouldn't mind keeping it that way, but they might agree to cherry pick from the ACC if it adds value $$$. I would expect Florida State, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Miami, Virginia Tech, North Carolina State, to listen to Big 12 overtures if North Carolina, Virginia, etal go B1G or SEC.
I do not expect the Big 12 to add Cinci or Louisville.
