Re: PAC doesn't rule out expansion
Rather than spilt PAC 12(14/16) East and West, divided it North and South, so everyone gets West Coast games.

I think the point is that the old PAC 8 would want to be together.
Some people simply forget just how bad it was...

Re: PAC doesn't rule out expansion
This may sound crazy now, but if you think about it, the PAC should have fought the Big 10 for Nebraska but instead they got dooped by Texas. And quite honestly, they should have jumped on TCU before the Big 12 had a chance to regroup. How would this PAC have looked keeping in mind it would have balanced out the strenght of the divisions and cleanly reunited the Pac8 schools:
USC, UCLA, Stanford, Cal, Washington, Wash State, Oregon, Oregon State
Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Arizona State, TCU, SMU, Houston.
That would have been some powerful stuff with geography, markets, tvs, academics, everything. Replace us or Houston with the Aggies and it would have been off the charts.

Re: PAC doesn't rule out expansion
I hope SMU can run a successful campaign for the PAC. If you look at stable conferences, the PAC isnt going anywhere. I dont think any of us can say the same for the Big 12 or the ACC.
Our chances are best with the PAC. However, I doubt the PAC would invite 2 private schools from Texas. They would most likely take the top 2 available in Texas... which, if the Big12 GoR / LHN stay, it would be SMU and Houston.
On the other hand... If the Big12 collapses, we would probably take their spot in the Big12. So either way, I think we will end up OK.
Louisville really campaigned for the ACC. I want SMU to do the same with the PAC. Houston needs to come with us. If Houston can grow academically, and we can grow athletically, we would be a great add for the PAC and for us.

Re: PAC doesn't rule out expansion
I geniunely believe UT and the PAC will still eye each other, LHN and TAMU or not - there's too much money to possibly be made from the deal to completely take it off the table. Who would go with them, and how they would decide, I do not presume to know.
But if it is going to happen it would have to bring more TV sets and academics to the table. SDSU is off the table to start - they bring nothing. It's hard to see BSU going as well. I have a hard, hard time seeing us becoming a part of the Pac-16. Rather, I would see us falling in with the remaining pieces of the Big 12 if Texas, probably OU, and any others go.

Hoop- there isn't anything academic about the eastern half of your PAC suggestion except us. The rest are junk.

Re: PAC doesn't rule out expansion
I think a lot of people said the same thing about the BigXII adding another Texas school, yet look at TCU. If TV market plays any significant role, which we hope it does, I would not completely rule out SDSU. Their BB program, much like ours, is on the rise, but for the Aztecs it has been so for awhile.leopold wrote:SDSU is off the table to start - they bring nothing.
A school that makes zero sense to me is Colo St, but they get mentioned sometimes. I also think Boise St is way over-rated as a potential candidate.
Re: PAC doesn't rule out expansion
What they said was there wouldn't be a 5th Texas school. If A&M stays then TCU never gets a bid. If another Texas school leaves, we also might have a chance.
Look at other conference additions. The SEC needed a 14th school to go with A&M and could have easily found someone within the existing Southeastern Conference footprint, but every school fought to keep their rival out - UCS against Clemson, UGA against Tech, LSU against Tulane, UF against FSU, etc. Heck, the ACC also had a chance to bring in schools within their footprint but failed to do so - even UVA had to have a gun pointed at their head to advocate Va Tech.
The Big Ten could have found schools within their boundaries - and I hear Iowa and Penn State actually are trying to get ISU and Pitt in - but they wanted additional TV markets.
Expansion right now is about TV sets and money - not even all that much about athletics in some sense. Even forgetting the fact that Stanford and Cal are academic snobs SDSU has no chance, but I guarantee you someone in their Corporate Office (and I mean that) is eyeing Texas.

Did LSU really fight to keep Tulane out? Hard to believe Tulane gets any kind of mention at the SEC headquarters.......leopold wrote:What they said was there wouldn't be a 5th Texas school. If A&M stays then TCU never gets a bid. If another Texas school leaves, we also might have a chance.

Re: PAC doesn't rule out expansion
and so aTm would fight to keep us and cougar high out?? I would think they would welcome a 'patsy' on their schedule.
Re: PAC doesn't rule out expansion
Go - I don't hold Nebraska in high esteem but the Big10 took them and they are AAU aren't they? TCU is a good school, regardless of their reqs for athletes in particular. And A&M would be good enough for the PAC. Sure, Houston is a weak link but they were my throw in school to make us look good/solid.gostangs wrote:Hoop- there isn't anything academic about the eastern half of your PAC suggestion except us. Since the Junez said this morning that Florida State will be joining the Big 12 this week, you can forget about the Pac-XX adding OU and friends. Thanks to Junior for his courage in announcing this.
Re: PAC doesn't rule out expansion
I'm not saying that Tulane was at the top of the SEC list, but LSU wants Tulane out of the way - it is LSU who has refused to play the Green Wave, not vice versa.PonySnob wrote: Did LSU really fight to keep Tulane out? Hard to believe Tulane gets any kind of mention at the SEC

I don't know - the state of Texas has the room for another SEC school, and at this point I believe the new kids would be a little more amiable to share. My first instinct is to say the would be against it, but who knows. Besides, the rumor is that the SEC is now looking east for two teams to top off at 16, and the Aggies can always schedule an OOC patsy.redpony wrote:and so aTm would fight to keep us and cougar high out??
