Nothing on rivals like that but it is on other message boards.

It is obvious that one thing this coaching staff has always done - if you mess up, you are going to get called out for it. Privately, and sometimes it might leak and go more public. Players are told directly (maybe too directly) why they aren't seeing the field at any given point in time.

Some players are going to take that and go elsewhere (Padron, Dieter), and others are going to work their butts off to get back in the good graces of the staff and will earn the coaching staff's loyalty forever (Reed, Sanders).

That, of course, assumes that there is a disconnect with him and the staff, and it is not just about getting close to home. I certainly wouldn't doubt if June said "he is a freshman and doesn't quite get it yet. If he gets it, he will see the field" if someone asked him about Dieter, because June says that about pretty much every single freshman you ask him a question about. He would probably give the same answer for a punter :).

For what it is worth, I thought Dieter was a really nice kid when I met him out on the practice field. He certainly has great hands and great size, and I hope he does well wherever he ends up.

yeah, this staff sure doesn't go by the "play the hot hand" theory. otherwise, darius joseph, deiter and a few others would have seen a lot more PT this year.

:). to be fair, Dieter only ran two different routes this year - the WR screen or the fly. On the Ticket the other day, they were talking about how WR is a really hard position in to move to the NFL and play - there are actually a really small amount of rookie WR who get 1000 yard seasons in the NFL (they were talking about it in regards to the light coming on for Dez finally the second half of this season).

I think the same thing is true in College. A lot of these kids run 2 or 3 patterns in high school. Look at Dieter's highlights for example. Then you get to College and the offense is more complex. And then you get our controversial read and react offense which is more complex than that. I think that there might be exceptions, but a lot of kids have a tough time at WR coming out of high school. Even Julio Jones, who was supposed to be incredible coming out of high school, took time to develop into a consistent player at Alabama. Hell, even Emmanual Sanders, who was incredible his senior year, wasn't lights out his frosh and sophomore years. Who would have thought a lot of Beasley his freshman year?

It was great to see the lights come on for Joseph during the Tulane game. The only reason he didn't see time the rest of the year is because DJ got his act together a bit more after coming back from suspension, and frankly JJ is loyal to the seniors who have a shot at the pros.

Do you have a rivals account? If so you know the conversations are different. If not you are speculating which it sounds like you are.

I had heard that he was having some issues with the coaching staff (one coach in particular) so this is not a huge shock to me, though it is a disappointment. You would think that since we seem to be developing a reputation for being a program where talented kids come in, last a year (maybe two), transfer out and excel elsewhere, perhaps there should be some looking into what is driving these kids away or keeping them from reaching their full potential as they seem to at other programs (besides the vaunted "system" that we have discussed at length). It's too easy to play the "he's a quitter who didn't like his playing time" card and ignore deeper issues that might be going on.

I have accounts everywhere. I only found one thread on rivals, which starts with a statement that he is leaving to be closer to home, and then a bunch of people asking questions. A little bit of other stuff added later. There are other threads elsewhere that have more information.

Apparently you read the wrong thread. If you even have a rivals account.

Its cool now to transfer when you aren't good enough to start. Instead of working hard to reach your goals just transfer. Since that is undoubtedly cool, I think it should also be cool to just go recruit someone else and not really give a [deleted]

He may not have been a good fit for the system and was told so. In such a case it would have been a mutual parting of the ways.

The thread he referenced quotes the kid and his dad. Why not take them at their word?

There actually is another thread that has more in it regarding the situation.

Does the other thread have quotes from the kid and his father that contradict what they said about wanting to be closer to home?

No, but JasonB said that he only found one thread on the issue and there is more than one on the issue which is what it sounds like Reb was trying to say.

Who cares how many threads there are and whether he scanned the whole board and saw them? Seems like focusing on the direct quotes from the player and his dad is pretty reasonable.

I hear what you saying but there is more than one thread on the issue. Saw comments from people who know the players. Anyway, I thought it was pretty interesting.
