This year Baylor sold authentic game worn jerseys and helmets with the option of having the helmets signed by the coach. The school makes money on used equipment and it keeps the fans happy. I have just the place in the house for a game worn SMU helmet but can't get one. So I bought a signed Baylor helmet for $500 and hope to some day replace it with an SMU helmet.

Save your money.

That and player's parents and other relatives...you know, peolple who care.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

SMU doesn't want to be like everyone else. Too many think it is uncool to go to football games and to act crazy and support your team, your school. And wearing a football jersey instead of a button down, well that is for the hillbillies, not us snobs. A shame because it is so fun. They would be better-suited to having a polo team on campus than a football team. Said with all due respects to the true fans and the greats from the past.

Bergermeister wrote:I cannot imagine there being too much demand for SMU "game" jerseys. Why would anyone (besides pepperbellies and hillbillies going to cowboy games) want to wear a football jersey in public? Game jerseys are for the team to wear. Fortunately, I have seen very few people wearing jerseys at SMU games - usually fat old men wearing a vintage back or receiver number.

What's a "pepperbelly"?

Haven't you heard? I wouldn't be seen dead on The Boulevard wearing actual college fan gear. I need to wear my Brooks Brothers khakis with the little horses all over my [deleted], bow tie, and SEC [deleted] fishing glasses then wonder why people who aren't used to SMU react like they've been dropped into a J Crew catalog.

You wear them sitting on the couch watching the Mustangs on TV while they play in the Hawaii Bowl because you can't afford a family Christmas vacation in Hawaii with less than a month's notice.

Football jersey?! I thought the required game day fan apperal was khaki shorts, pink button down long sleeve, with the sleeves rolled up. Designer shoes and eyeware of your choice?

This thread settles my game day attire this year, the #23 white game worn Adidas jersey I bought last year at the Adidas close out sale at Ford. I will do my best to squeeze into that! Unfortunately it is as tight as sausage casing and the shoulder pad area looks like a puffy wedding dress when worn.

Close to my attire except I have a blue smu dri-fit polo that I sport... I can't take the heat in any of my button downs....

Matches the same description of a lot of Baylor fans as well....

There is nothing wrong with sporting a jersey.

I love to see people wear the jerseys, but they are not for me. I usually wear shorts, school logo polo, and always white Peruna cap (it's brings wins ... I know that's silly, but I still do it). Plus, I didn't wear it to the Arms Forces Bowl and we all know how that turned out. I have a half dollar coin that I've taken to Bama games for the last 25 years, too.
I guess I need therapy!

Best of both worlds. Just order a monogrammed Ralph Lauren polo shirt with the initials SMU. You have SMU on your chest and the RL polo pony on the hem. Was wearing one the other day in south Orange County and ran into another SMU alum who asked if SMU stood for Southern Methodist. We had a nice reminiscent chat. Proud to be a pony fan.

They have a good selection of Ralph Lauren polo shirts at the SMU bookstore that have the SMU logo on them.

Haha. Sad but true most of the time. Much respect for the small group we have.
