Zach was a great player for CUSA, but please don't say that he was head and shoulders above all the rbs that came out of TX during that same time frame. We caught lightning in a bottle with him, but we don't need to be overlooking TX recruits for diamonds in the rough. You guys have diamonds in plain sight down in TX. I would never leave the state of TX to recruit a running back. A lineman, maybe.

What does your post have to do with the comment you quoted? Who said Zach was head and shoulders above all the running backs that came out of Texas during that same time frame? Congratulations on destroying the strawman though.

This program has to decide what it's going to be. Will we give scholarships to our friends kids or will we win football games? I bet the Aggies aren't in the business of giving friends' kids schollys. Thats why they are in the SEC now. How about that strawman![/quote]

Again, you have not addressed the post you quoted.

Let me see if I have got this straight … we have gone from congratulating a young man (KC) for a job well done, and wishing him more opp’s and success in the future, to a conspiracy theory of JJ-ZL-and a Lions VP …. Wow.

First, again great job KC, you reminded why I liked you so much back in HS. You came in and made the most of your opp, and I believe you will get deserved opp’s in the future. When you consider you have not touched the ball in a game situation in 3 years since you last game in HS (no doubt some rust has developed), you looked good.

Second, I get some of what you are saying, but ZL earned what he got and he is earning what he is getting now. To now somehow suggest well it was C-USA and ????, is just flat out wrong. The fact that a friend made call and sent a tape saying take a look at this kid … and this is what I know about him … that happens all day and every day in the recruiting game. Coaches know coaches and people in the game, its part of recruiting. I’ve passed on names to the coaches. I know for a fact that a CoC passed on a name and tape to the coaches to look at … no scholie was offered. You’re entitled to your opinion on where you think ZL rates as a RB to others … but the young man earned his keep at SMU and all the accolades that came/come with it.

You seem to be under the impression that June gives a scholarship to every kid that one of his friends asks him to consider. Do you really believe that?

Also, Zach won a few games for us so even if your claim is true, apparently those things are not incompatible. Your latest strawman did not get demolished as well as the first one.

Whether June knows the Lines or not, Zach was a key player.

Nlemchi looks like a fine player. But I doubt he'd come remotely close to what Zach Line did here in shattering records and in what he's doing now as a starting back in the NFL his rookie season.

Love this predraft blurb from fantasy football guru Matthew Freeman

March 20, 2013
The Most Undervalued RB in the 2013 Draft

From a certain perspective, the odds are greater than not that the subject of this article will never be a startable fantasy RB. Players like this guy are hardly ever usable in fantasy lineups. From another perspective, though, the odds are about even that he will be a fantasy contributor—and if he does become usable, his value will be immense, since he will go unselected in all leagues, dynasty and redraft alike. He may even go unselected in the NFL draft, and (for the selfish sake of my fantasy endeavors) I kind of hope he does. [Dude, I’m really sorry I said that. But I kind of meant it. It worked for Arian. It could work for you.] Nevertheless, this player is without question one of the incoming rookies about whom I am most excited, especially since his market value is just below where Mike Alstott’s would be if he staged a 2013 comeback at the age of 39.

I pseudo-promise, you have no idea who this guy is, and yet he was among the most productive RBs over the last three years—no, it’s not Monte Ball. And, no, it’s not late-round hopeful Miguel Maysonet—my guy got his production playing FBS college football, competing against teams from the Big 12, Pac-12, and SEC. No, it’s not Joseph Randle, Johnathan Franklin, or Knile Davis. And although he didn’t score as many TDs as some players, he still scored a lot, and he certainly has the build to be an NFL goal-line back. No, it’s not Christine Michael, Stepfan Taylor, or Le’Veon Bell. And he’s not just a short-yardage back. His team depended on him to carry the load, almost the entire load, for three seasons, and he delivered with over 1175 rushing yards each year. No, it’s not Denard Robinson—but that was a sneaky guess.

In fact, if you go to this list of draft-eligible RBs, provided by CBSSports and NFL Draft Scout, the name of my guy will not be present. Yep, out of all the RBs on the list, most of whom will not be drafted, my guy is absent. But here’s the thing—my guy probably will get drafted in the final rounds, and he has a strong chance of sticking on an NFL roster, due to his versatility. Are you interested yet?

And his post from a few weeks ago:

I’ve been talking about this guy since March. I still think he’s perhaps the most undervalued RB of the 2013 class. If you play in an ESPN league, don’t even bother trying to pick him up—he doesn’t have a player profile: Line’s not even in ESPN’s player universe. That’s how off the radar he is. In the RDL I claimed Line off of waivers in late June for the cost of $2—our annual waiver budget is $1000 per team—and I probably overpaid. As far as I know, no one else in the RDL is really interested in Line.

And as I was writing that previous paragraph, Zach Line just scored a 61-yard catch-and-run TD on his first NFL touch. He broke a tackle at the beginning of the play, made a nifty cut to extend the play, and then broke another tackle to get into the end zone. Granted, this play occurred in the first preseason game of the season, but I think Line has Mike Alstott potential. He can pick up the blitz, he can catch out of the backfield, and he might be slower than most RBs but he can still run the ball effectively. I promise you that 232-lb. RBs with three straight FBS seasons of at least 1200 rushing yards and 10 TDs per year don’t just melt into the ether. Such guys tend to make an NFL impact, and Line is such a player, even if he is technically a FB.

Here’s how you should think about Line. Adrian Peterson is great, but he’s getting older. He won’t be around forever, and his handcuff has some value. AD’s handcuff currently is Toby Gerhart, who is basically just a faster version of Line and a guy who will be a free agent after this season. The third-string RB, Matt Asiata, is a large RB who nevertheless is older, smaller, and less athletic than Line. Don’t believe me? Go to their player profiles at NFL Draft Scout (here and here). Yes, the larger FB is actually more athletic than the RB. Additionally, Asiata was far less productive in college. In 2014, if one of these guys is going to be Peterson’s handcuff, I think it will be Line.

Even if all Line does is see the field as an RB/FB hybrid who pass blocks on third downs, catches passes out of the backfield, and gets the occasional early-down carry, that’s still valuable, especially if he can eventually vulture some TDs. Big guys like that—Mike Alstott, Peyton Hillis, Le’Ron McClain, and Mike Tolbert—find a way to contribute.

I think Line will be a contributor, and his nQBDR suggests as much. Once he became SMU’s primary RB as a sophomore in 2010 (switching from FB, by the way), he put together the best three-season stretch of nQBDR performance that I’ve found so far: 92.93%, 94.1%, and 93.04%. If he gets an opportunity, I think he’ll make something happen in the NFL—and big-bodied RBs with that kind of production generally get opportunities at some point.

Line probably won’t turn in a Hillis-esque top-2 season during his career, but under the right circumstances could Line submit a top-30 season as a fill-in starter and substantial role player? Yeah. More than one top-30 season is pushing it, but only one? I bet it happens, not in 2013 and probably not in 2014. 2015?—when Peterson is playing at the ripe age of 30? I’m calling my shot.

Zach Line will be a top-30 player at some point, perhaps as early as 2015.

How do you know if he doesn't get the carriers? I think he is an explosive player. Zach is a FB in the pros not a HB. What records did Zach shatter at SMU?

this thread is completely stupid.

Zach Line was incredible. We were lucky to have him play for us the past few years.

KC looks good. Hope he gets a chance, and makes the most of it.

We're done. Thanks for your insight family members.

This thread is NOT stupid. I started it and said, "He finally good his chance and did a fine job."
Nothing stupid about that. I wish him the best.
