Re: Texas Football.com reads pony fansNevertheless our defense typically isn't the problem in the pass. They usually hold up their end until they realize the offense will never score even when they get turnovers. Theres no doubt this year's defense blows to say the least, but I mean I'm not going to fault him for one bad year when the other side of the ball hasnt been spot on really ever (unless of course in Hawaii).
Re: Texas Football.com reads pony fansMason is butt-hurt about the Nevada job...as checked as June is...we have better defensive athletes than last year...why no blitzing?
Re: Texas Football.com reads pony fans
Sometimes people try their best and it is not good enough. Why do you think not getting that job would make him not try his hardest? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Re: Texas Football.com reads pony fansBecause this defense rolls out the most vanilla scheme week after week...like nothing we've seen before...and I don't think there is a drop off of talent to justify it
Re: Texas Football.com reads pony fans
Thank you mrydel. Tired of the "but we played them close for a half!" business.
Re: Texas Football.com reads pony fans
Well look who is Mr. Negative all the sudden! ![]() I had to do it. I hope you and ARkpony, Ponyte and the rest of the Arky Mafia have safe travels to Memphis.
Re: Texas Football.com reads pony fans
That does not address the question of why not getting the Nevada job would cause him to stop trying his hardest, it just explains what you think he is doing wrong.
Re: Texas Football.com reads pony fansI don't know, let me ask him?...???
He doesn't get a job and suddenly his formerly aggressive defensive scheme is reduced to something shockingly passive and un-creative...He clearly is not trying his hardest. As to why Mason has a sudden change in philosophy...perhaps it's not getting the Nevada job...perhaps it's the general ennui on the sideline that has gotten to him...IDK
Re: Texas Football.com reads pony fans
Maybe he thinks this is the best approach? Not a possibility in your mind? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Re: Texas Football.com reads pony fansThe "best" approach is to not blitz, not confuse the offense and not really worry about putting pressure on the QB? Is your goal just to appear "level-headed", even if what you are saying doesn't make any sense?
Re: Texas Football.com reads pony fans
My goal is to understand why you are not willing to consider any other option than that he is not trying his hardest. What possible benefit does he get from running a defense that is getting lit up? Why is it not possible that he is doing what he thinks is best and it is just not good enough? It is possible that you are right that he is not using the best approach, but isn't it possible/likely that he thinks it is the best approach? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Re: Texas Football.com reads pony fansBecause I can go to the last page of every defensive ranking and find on the NCAA website and see "SMU" near the bottom of the list.
2013: #98 total defense, #123 scoring defense, #57 rushing defense, tied for second to last place in 3rd Down Conv Defense, #106 passing defense In 2012 and previous years Mason had us +50 spaces higher. Explanation? Then there is the eye-ball test...no blitzes, nothing resembling previous seasons, no QB pressure. Yes, Davis, Reed and Pittman are gone but Mason across-the-board has bigger, quicker guys. Something is funky and no explanation I can think of involves Mason trying hard.
Re: Texas Football.com reads pony fans
He might be getting out coached or out schemed but it seems ridiculous to say he is not trying. You have no proof of that. I have questioned our playcalling on offense all year but would never accuse a coacj of not trying. They just aren't wired that way....your argument makes no sense.
Re: Texas Football.com reads pony fansWe do not have the secondary to handle a lot of blitzing. Acker is all we have that can handle man to man coverage. Everyone keep reporting how the secondary was our strength but it is not. Is is the most experienced but not our strength. Always sounds good to say blitz, blitz, blitz, but when the blitz is picked up, which it usually is in our case, then we are giving up big plays.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Texas Football.com reads pony fansI think the worst thing you can do to a weak secondary is make them defense a relentless passing attack with no pressure...QBs could read a book back there
