NO! Not only No, HELL NO!

This is premature. Hart is not going to pull the trigger and JJ is not going to retire. Right now, I doubt his agent's phone is ringing with competitive offers for JJ's services.

All of the people that have been mentioned as possible HC replacements are going to get offers at the end of the year. We won't get a shot at them. It is a great intellectual exercise, but pointless. We are going to have the same staff next year.

Let me leave you with the thought that will keep the few die hards up at night... JJ retires on January 31st. We lose the entire recruiting class, we lose any of the other coaches mentioned and we have the same entire staff with one of them named interim HC for all of next season. The 2015 recruiting class is guys with only FCS offers.

Why would you say the current administration has no desire to be competitive? Admissions are not an issue anymore. What are you specifically talking about?

For some reason, I can sense a lack of enthusiasm for a top 25 football program, from SMU itself. That's my perception, I may be wrong...

Who are we going to lose the (2014) class to? Many of them have only one offer. The 2015 class would look just like the 2014 class........................ If JJ stays or retires at the end of January, the recruiting class will be similar to this year's class. He needs to go after this season is over, retire or fired, it doesn't matter.

I could be head coach. I led us to two undefeated seasons on the PS3 with JJ's personnel.

Seems like this is hard core JJ support fear tactics. I am sure many more posts like this will come out. First off this class is not that much to lose. Second if the 2015 class has only FCS offers that is about like JJ recruits anyway. Except if some had FCS offers at least they would have some offers and not be recrutis with no offers at all but neither is good. But I guess you could be making an argument that we act sooner rather than later so JJ will not have set us up like that.

It wouldn't surprise me if jj did something like that. Remember the ASU fiasco- he was about to bolt late in Dec. and that would have been very late to get a good replacement coach and staff let alone start a totally new recruiting effort.

SMU where we are supposed to be "World Changers." Let's do something innovative at head coach. What if we get an FCS coach to allow the team to have someone to be accountable to. But, then do some kind of system that allows fans to call the plays. Kind of like a video game. Just something that Junior said that made me think that would cool. Can't be any worse than what JJ has accomplished recently.

but the problem would be that the qb wouldn't know which fan to run to to get the play. :)

No Rebel. I was, at one time, a big JJ supporter. I think the final straw for me was Tulane last year. This is what I worry about for the future of SMU football. This isn't me making some last minute defense for JJ. This is what concerns me. If you don't think he would do it... JJ is notoriously loyal to his guys. This would ensure that they all have an extra year of employment. He would be gone so he wouldn't have to face the consequences. All of the bright young coaches we would love to have to build upon would be gone. JJ would tell his good buddy Dale Hanson, "SMU doesn't want to do what it takes to win". Making it even harder for SMU to find a quality replacement after the 2014 season and making it easier for him to find a job if that is what he wants to do.

It's the CoC's decision in the end. But if he going to be gone, I would rather he pack his bags 10 minutes after the final game.

It would be nice if jj announced his retirement this week. Then the team could say they were trying to win one for the coach. Things would be much smoother and he could leave on a high note.

Request for Poll: Who should be our Next Head Coach?

Postby StandUp » Sat Nov 30, 2013 6:24 pm

Can we get a Poll on the Football Section of ponyfans.com asking who should be our next Head Coach?

Would be curious to know the percentage break down of some of the favorites.

Phillip Montgomery (Baylor OC)
Coach Orgeron (USC HC)
Chad Morris (Clemson OC)
Willie Fritz (Sam Houston State HC)
Gary Patterson (TCU HC)
Bo Pellini (Nebraska HC)

Whoever else...

You can create a poll yourself. Just have to choose the tab at the bottom of the New Topic page called Poll Creation.
