Young, ambitious coordinator that is known for being an aggressive recruiter.

He needs to bring an exciting brand of football and be willing to get out into the SMU and Dallas community to sell SMU to both recruits and fans/potential fans.

The type of guy I'm thinking about will be looking to springboard his career... he won't be looking at SMU as a destination job. The only coaches we're going to get that consider us a destination job right now are older coaches looking for a paycheck before retirement. It sounds weird, but mid-major programs become big time programs by rolling the dice on ambitious young coaches until they get to the point where coaches consider the program a destination job.

But since you asked, I expect us to be what TCU was before they joined big 12 - highly competitive with everyone and occasionally a giant killer.

My expectations are:

Be competitive against TCU Tech and Baylor, on the field and in recruiting.

A coach that understands our traditions and knows how to connect with our fan base.

Works hard and has the respect if the kids that play for him.

Works to make SMU visible in the DFW community and media.

Has a staff that is hungry and works hard.

If we get someone who has some if these qualities I think attendance and record will improve. See what Larry Brown is doing (not only in court but for the SMU fans and with his staff).

The administration has ignored the fans and it shows in the stands. We can and should be successful, but it will take a guy with vision.

Shut the [deleted] up! No coach will fix our crappy football program. June Jones who made miracles in Hawaii could not do it! Phil Bennett who is a star in Baylor could not do it! Get your head out of your [deleted]!

Baylor OC would probably get a lot of the Morris votes if Morris is not available. I want to interview about 5 guys and I want someone on the Hiring Committee to ask some tough questions about how they plan to make us nationally competitive and unite the Fan base. I want a Ron Meyer to Wow the Committee. We really need to energetic-if not young-charismatic guy who can energize the alumni

if you had seen PB's staff you would understand why we didn't get it done. Great Coordinator. not head coach material at that point.

You are wrong FTHP - there is nothing keeping us from getting there, except fear of failure.

JJ didn't make miracles in Hawaii, he had an undefeated season against a terrible schedule and then predictably got scorched in the Sugar bowl against UGA. Phil Bennett is not a star at Baylor, their defense isn't very good. You seriously know nothing about college football

I'm glad June came here and forced the administrative changes necessary to compete, but he needs to go. Tom Herman would be a hell of a hire for SMU, even if he's only here 2-3 years.

68% of June's games at Hawaii were home games in Honolulu.

June Jones voluntarily paid a man named Joe Haering to be a collegiate assistant coach for numerous years with the explicit understanding that under no circumstances would this man be required to recruit student athletes. Miracle worker my rear end.

Stallion, I agree on the importance of energy to revive our legacy, create excitement with recruits and engage the student body, which carries a great deal of responsibility in this resurrection. I am not anti-JJ and respect his FB credentials; however, I have never understood his lack of enthusiasm in promoting the program to students, alums, fans and recruits. Did JJ feel he bore no responsibility in creating excitement? Granted, our student body is easily distracted and has not connected with their role and responsibility for school spirit, but JJ must have felt he did not have to invest any energy to change attitudes outside his locker room.

Although they have Power Conference revenue, I look at results and HCs at Vanderbilt, Northwestern and, now, Duke for examples of high energy and dedication to a school as good examples of what can be accomplished. For that matter, Rice had a great year and Tulane is remerging.

We had better get on the stick soon and become a legitimate contender every year in the AAC. If we want to earn better opportunities in the future, SMU has to dominate it current conference, while energizing our fan base.
