Oregon St was a highly ranked school when TCU played them. National spotlite game at Jerry World. When SMU scheduled TCU they weren't BCS, Texas A&M was mid BCS and Baylor hadn't won a bowl game in over a decade. Tech is Tech

Preseason ranked #24 despite going 8-5 and losing their last 2 games including their bowl game by 24 points. 5-7 final record. Just shows how relevant preseason rankings are.

Oregon St. To say they were "highly ranked" is a little misleading. They were ranked, but #24 is not "highly" ranked. And like I said, just because they were preseason ranked, it doesn't mean they were good as evidenced by their 5-7 record that season.

sbsmith - good lord you could not be more wrong. that is what we have done for the last several years, and after we start every year at 1-3 then nobody cares and our season is basically over. We absolutely need to stop that idea and try something new.

We start every year 1-3 because the talent level is low, we could try "something new" but if the talent level stays low then we'll just be replacing Texas P5 losses in full stadiums on national TV with G5 losses in empty stadiums on ESPN3. Improve the talent level and no one has to be scared of facing relevant competition.

You're right that we need to try something new. "Recruiting" and "preseason preparation" would be good places to start.
