While emailing Hart may be a direct way to address the problem a more effective way might be to email Aresco. I would think Aresco would be incensed by thoses comments.

I'm pretty sure that our conference commissioner, that is trying to convince major networks that the American is Power Conference caliber, would be delighted to hear that one of his coaches does not believe we will be competitive vs. other conferences. I'm sure you will never hear Kevin O'leary say you can't recruit against P5 teams.

Columnist Tim Cowlishaw answered questions in a chat Thursday. Here are some highlights.

Question: I bet it's tough to recruit for SMU, but it had a nice run there that it didn't seem to build on. Even thought they are going to bowl games (.500 teams do now, so that shouldn't be a measuring stick), is it time for a change?

Tim Cowlishaw: It's time for June to do better than he has, that's for sure.

Question: SMU had what can't even be called a recruiting class. Looked more like a signup sheet. Can you save SMU in a graph or so?

Tim Cowlishaw: I see ESPN has them checking in with the No. 75 recruiting class, just behind Marshall and San Diego State. That's not good for June. Bill Nichols' recruiting notes today didn't sound very encouraging. Afraid the Hilltop is basketball country these days.

Frustrated this evening listening to an interview with the Div II coach of Ouachita Baptist University. Keihl Frazier, highly rated recruit a few years ago and recent transfer to OBU from Auburn came up in the conversation. The primary reason Frazier chose OBU was because they had initially recruited him and he remembered them doing so. Now OBU has a 4 or 5 star QB because he knew who they were, where they were, and what they were. This is one reason why you do not forgo recruiting high quality athletes.
