SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

No kiddin'! And it'll be fun to see 'Dandy Don' Meredith and Roger (The Dodger) Staubach at mid-field before the game for the coin flip, too!
I was at the 1963 SMU v. Navy game in the Cotton Bowl. A great game!

Don Meredith is going to be there? I thought Eric Dickerson was going to oversee the coinflip with Staubach. Have I been misinformed?

Yes and no. I think early on it was intended for Dickerson to do it, but Dandy Don is now the man. No I don't know the particulars.
