College Network Makes Big Cuts

"CBS College Sports said Thursday that it was laying off nearly one-quarter of its staff, or about 30 employees. The cutbacks signify the network├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├óΓÇ₧┬ós shift from studio programs to increased high-definition event coverage.

The studio shows will stay on the air until early December, resume temporarily for the N.C.A.A. men├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├óΓÇ₧┬ós basketball tournament in March and be suspended afterward.

Steve Herbst, the executive vice president of CBS College Sports, the former CSTV, said the shift was not a reaction to competition from ESPNU.
