Coaches already are game-planning for their season openers, I assume. If you're the Tech defensive coaches, are you more concerned about Munlin mustering up a big game against his former team, or the mystery of the new Burns-coached offense that you've never seen?

I think it's a nice spot to be in, having the Red Raiders wondering what to expect. I admit I'm wondering, too.

We're mainly wondering whether our defense can hold anyone below 50 points per game.

I have very little confidence in a unit that came in 117th last year only because there was no 118th place.

I wouldn't worry, as I recall they were able to keep the ponies in check well enough last year.

Hopefully the Ponies' offense will be much-improved this year, and that we can score enough to make it a close game. If we can keep it close, who knows. (That also probably requires the Tech offense needing a week or two to iron out the kinks with a new QB, etc. Let's hope...)

I'm no coach, but I'd think this is a very good point about the concern on behalf of the Tech coaches. Sure, they know about Munlin's ability, but they also know he's a big, strong kid who (A) will want to do well against his old team and (B) has a lot of pent-up energy, having sat and watched last year.

But consider what else the offense has that it didn't have last year:

A new OC and offensive philosophy.
A QB who can really run (if Phillips is the starter) and throw (regardless of whether it's Phillips, Eckert or Romo).
More size and experience on the offensive line.
More speed and depth at RB.
Tight ends who can block and catch (based on spring performances, anyway).
Several new WRs (Lowery, Chase, Vinson) who the Tech coaches don't have film on.

I'm not saying we'll roll through the TT defense by any means. But it's nice to have the element of surprise.
